Who runs the ZNCP Salmonella in pigs monitoring programme?
An industry Steering group has been established to oversee the management of ZNCP Salmonella in pigs. The Steering group meets regularly to review the management of ZNCP, specifying the Platinum Pigs Standard, encouraging holdings to aim for a % positive + suspect prevalence below 10% and what action should be taken by holdings. These decisions are then recommended to the Technical Advisory Committees (TACs) of the various assurance scheme bodies including ABPigs, GQA, Quality Meat Scotland (QMS), Northern Ireland Salmonella Scheme (NISS) and British Quality Assured Processors.
The Steering group is chaired by Robert Howe of the British Meat Processors Association (BMPA) and includes representatives of the following industry bodies:
- Agricultural and Horticultural Development Board
- BPEX
- British Meat Processors Association
- Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
- National Pig Association
- Pig Veterinary Society
- Food Standards Agency
- Veterinary Laboratory Agency
